A firm grasp of history is important for all students. Through learning about the past students are able to develop their own ideas and beliefs about the world today. History allows students to ask questions of the present through engagement with the past.
As well as being a highly academic subject, history is also a highly practical and enterprising subject in that it involves:
- Learning about people
- Learning about countries, societies and cultures
- Learning to locate and sift facts
- Presenting what you have learned in a way that makes sense to others
History prepares pupils for the future, equipping them with knowledge and skills that are valued in adult life, enhancing employability and developing an ability to take part in a democratic society.
