There are two courses we run at GCSE level, the Single Award GCSE in Art and Design and the BTEC Extended Certificate in Art and Design.
We will ensure that you have been entered for the course that suits you best.
The work that you do for both courses is very similar although assessment is slightly different and with the Single Award you can get one GCSE at the end of the course whereas with the BTEC Extended Certificate you can get the equivalent of two GCSE’s.
The work that you will do will be mostly practical. That is you will be doing things like drawing, painting, claywork, sculpture, photography, animation and printing.
There is a little bit of writing or annotation involved when you have to make notes in your sketchbook or write about other artists or designers.
All of your work is assessed as you go through the course by your art teachers. It is then moderated by someone from the exam board. Your work will be displayed at the annual art exhibition in your final year.
If you choose to do art you must be prepared to work hard in lessons and out of lessons or at home. Remember you are being assessed on all the things you create not just your knowledge and understanding.
If you have any more questions please ask one of the art teachers.
